I made this rocking horse for my grand kids. It was one of the first projects in my new shop in Colorado. Nearly 10 years later it is still going strong!
Rocking Horse
My wife helped me with the ears but I did all the rest. The mane is heavy duty yarn tied around a piece of rope and attached in a groove along the neck.
The rocker was made from 2x10's and 1x4's with 1 inch dowel rods on each end.
The seat is surprisingly comfortable being made of wood.
The eyes were purchased from Hobby Lobby
The tail is the only thing that hasn't survived 6 grandkids tugging on it. One of these days might grow another one.
Initial assembly. It's made out of multiple layers of 3/4 inch plywood for strength. This is one of the few projects that I did not make a scale drawing first. Instead, I drew out the pieces full size on large pieces of masking paper. This was before my CNC days.
Fresh coat of paint. It's really starting to look like a horse!
