Design Process

A custom project should never begin with a saw or a sheet of plywood. It begins with a conversation.

1. Initial Consultation

We’ll start by talking about what you want to accomplish with your project. We’ll discuss the layout, cabinet style, door and drawer details, finish options, and any other features that are important to you.

I’ll take the initial measurements and then begin developing the design. I can normally have the initial design ready within a few days.

2. See Your Project Before It’s Built

The first step in the design process is a scale model 3D sketch of your project, along with a realistic rendering that gives you a very good idea of what the finished project will look like.

This is one of the advantages of working with 64bit Woodworking & Crafts. Rather than trying to imagine what a finished cabinet will look like from a drawing or a conversation, you can see it before construction begins.

We’ll review the design together, and I’ll make any necessary changes until you’re satisfied with the result.

3. Approve the Design

Once you’re happy with the design, we’ll finalize the details and I’ll prepare an estimate for the project.

The time required to prepare an estimate depends on the size and complexity of the project. I carefully determine the materials required and obtain current pricing, so the estimate may take a few days to complete.

4. Approve the Estimate

Once you approve the estimate, a deposit is required before construction begins. The deposit is primarily used to purchase the materials needed for your project.

After the materials have been purchased, the deposit becomes non-refundable.

5. Construction Begins

With the design approved, the estimate accepted, and materials in hand, construction can begin.

From this point forward, I’ll personally build your project and, when applicable, install it in your home.

The result is a custom project that has been carefully planned, designed around your space, and built specifically for you.
